Bono turns 65 today. When our heroes grow old.

I’ve been a U2 fan since 1988. I like they’re old stuff. I like their new stuff. Today May 10 is Bono’s 65 birthday. May 7 was my 52nd birthday. What the hell…

When I first started following U2, he was 28. I was 15.

We grow old. Time moves forward. Our faces are no longer smooth. Hair is no longer black, or in my case, even around.

I had two shoulder surgeries in my 51st year. And the drummer for U2, Larry Mullen Jr., had back surgery keeping him out the concerts at the Sphere in Las Vegas last year. Even at our best efforts our bodies break down.

People on the internet get mad that the band isn’t chart toppers they were back in the 80s and 90s. I am just thankful they still produce music. Not everything has to be Achtung Baby!

Apple TV has a documentary coming at the end of the month showing one of Bono toru stops from a year ago when he was promoting his biography Surrender.

At this point in my life I am just thankful some of my heroes are still around, Bono, The Edge, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Harrison Ford. The lesson they teach is that you can still produce work even when everyone considers you old.
